So, a buddy of mine posed the question...

Which do you feel, is a superior email client? GMAIL 5.0 (Lollipop update) or INBOX (by Gmail)?

So, being the software addict that I am, I asked for an invite so I could check out the fabled new addition to the Google stable... INBOX! So What Does STYLEZ Think?

OK, so after only 1 day, I (kinda) prefer INBOX over GMail 5.0!!! I feel like Inbox, indeed, helps me get things done and kinda forces me to get organized in my digital life. To begin the process of getting more organized, I consolidated my corporate email to my GMail account and spent like 3 or 4 hours cleaning up that mess! I'd been getting a lot of spam lately so I think Gmail is going to help with that! (so far so good)

So then I moved on to understanding INBOX and the bundling, and the sweeping, and all of the other organization tools it flaunts! And I must say, between the mobile app (on Android) and the website, I am impressed. I actually never really got motivated to do the labeling/tagging in Gmail. It was never user friendly to me. I found the new Gmail 5.0 on Android was better. But with Bundles in INBOX, I feel more in control and pre-organized so that I can focus on what I'm doing and get it done, versus flailing my arms all over the place with random messages just filling up my mailbox daily!

The only "major" gripe I have right now, is to perform more complex selections (based on advanced filters), you still have to rely on the old Gmail website, but other than that INBOX's website and mobile app are easy to use and very helpful in getting what's important, right in front of me! Also, the addition of some of Google Keep's features (reminders) is an added bonus, since I love that app too. I'm impressed, and hope with (a little) time, it will totally replace all of my email clients and fulfill my digital needs!

WHAT STYLEZ THINKS ABOUT => Google's Project Glass #AugmentedReality

 

So What Does STYLEZ Think?

This is TOO cool! Project Glass from Google is going to be AMAZING! The only thing that may suck about it is there's a possibility you may have to wear a contact lense along with the wireframe glasses. But if they can overcome that one negative (which for a large majority of people is an everyday thing), then it will be HUGE! Check it out!

There's gesture (presumably from the eye or head movement) activated actions that allow the user to do everything from Check-In, check the weather, activate voice actions, etc. It takes photos, and even allows you to do a sort of video share hangout (via Google+ of course). And all within a small device that is destined to be the future of augmented reality apparel! Definitely someting to get EXCITED about!

What Stylez Thinks About => Android Updates (aka The Stop Your Whining Post!)

So What Does STYLEZ Think?

I have been seeing SO many Google Android related articles about...

• Am I getting Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
• Why am I not getting another update
• What's taking so long to get my update

Well! I'm tired of it! Most of these people paid all of $12 bucks for their phone and they are demanding updates! OK, yes I'm exaggerating a bit, but $100 retail is NOTHING for a phone! Especially since MOST people never pay retail! They usually get like $25-$50 off, if not more!

So seriously, when will the whining end! I'm tired of hearing the complaints about updates! If you want the new Android software SO BAD, then go to XDA Developers, learn how to unlock and customize your phone, then get the new updates! That's what I've done! Stop waiting on, and whining about, carriers and manufacturers! Google put the code out there for use and good XDA Developers are making use of it for most of the better phones! So there's no excuse for people to get off their lazy behinds and go get it!

If your device doesn't support a new update (or doesn't have XDA Dev support), then you probably shouldn't have gotten that weak piece of $50 crap that you bought 2yrs ago! Every Android (and some WinMo) phone that I have ever bought has cost AT THE VERY LEAST $200 AFTER rebates and each one of them have been upgradeable! I have a 2.5YO HTC HD2 that has Android v2.3.7 on it now (the most up to date phone OS available, outside of ICS)! If you actually pay something for a phone, then yes, I think you deserve updates (sorry Sony owners). But whining and crying about your FREE phone not getting updates... you get NO sympathy from me!

And for everyone that says... but I'm not a techy, I just want my phone to work and be updated when Google puts out new software... Then you know what, you've all been warned before! And here it is again...

BUY A GOOGLE NEXUS PHONE!

Every Nexus phone that has been released has been supported by Google with updates! NO EXCUSES! You all love your updates, so stop circumventing the process and buying OTHER phones. YES, Android is about choice, that's the beauty... but if you made the choice to go outside the Nexus line, then live with that choice and make it work for you! Go get your updates when you want them! Or stop your whining and wait for them to be released (or buy a new phone)!

Google's April Fool History

April Fool’s Day is the day of enjoyment in which people make fun of each other. It is a great day where we make pranks inside the offices, homes and markets. Not only these places but web is also enthusiast on the April Fool’s Day. One of the examples is Google. They have been elaborated their pranks over the years. There is a history of pulling the April Fools day pranks of Google. With an April Fool’s day prank Google each year decides to play a joke on the world for the entertainment of its users. Since 2000 the world has been pulled by the April Fool’s day jokes by Google. This year prank by the Google is the announcement of changing its name to Topeka. Some of the pranks that Google made in the past years are as follow.

MentalPlex (2000): in which brainwave activity, past browser history and mouse movements could be scanned by Google for figuring out where you wanted to go.

Pigeon Based Ranking System (2002): it was announced by Google that pigeons would be used for pecking away randomly on their computers on order to find websites. They claimed that information would be grabbed randomly by the pigeons thus more meshed web would be allowed. That was a well thought idea for a prank.

Google “Moon” Jobs (2004): This was the prank made by Google to the job seekers and was a part of the companies “Google Copernicus Hosting Environment and Experiment in Search Engineering (G.C.H.E.E.S.E.)’.

Brain Drink That Makes You Think Faster (2005): in this it was claimed by the Google that the DNA code of the human could be read with a special sensor o the lip of the bottle of Coca-Cola. The size of our DNA is just 3 Gigabytes as described by the Google.

Other pranks made by Google in the years 2006,2007,2008 and 2009 were Google Contextual Dating, Google Toilet Internet Service Provider, Google Worldwide Rickrolling + Other Pranks and Google Chrome 3D Browser respectively.

After my last couple of posts, I became nostalgic and wanted to get a list of great Google pranks, and found this list! I definitely look forward to seeing what the 2012 prank will be, seeing that it's the year predicted to be the end of human kind! I am sure Google is going to go ALL OUT for presumable their "last" prank! LOL!

April Fool's Revisited - GOOGLE CADIE's Favorite Places - Binary Perfection

I received an e-mail from a prince here asking for money. I concluded that he was a legitimate source - as his lat-long coordinates are in perfect binary.

I was perusing some of Google's BEST April Fool's jokes, and came across CADIE (http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/landing/cadie)! I LOVED this joke and was going through some of the links provided by CADIE (the panda loving, Artificial Intelligence system from GOOGLE Labs!). On the Google Maps in particular, you can find a tag for the Lat-Long Coordinate of Binary Perfection (somewhere in Nigeria! x_x) , which CADIE proclaims that she received an email from a prince asking for money (LMFAO) and she felt he must have been legit because of his lat-long position! LOL!

There is also a SPECIAL SURPRISE mentioned in Area 51, as well as an even BIGGER surprise for you when you visit the link listed under Redmond, WA! LOL! Check it out today!

TOPEKA (the search engine formerly known as GOOGLE)

A different kind of company name

Early last month the mayor of Topeka, Kansas stunned the world by announcing that his city was changing its name to Google. We’ve been wondering ever since how best to honor that moving gesture. Today we are pleased to announce that as of 1AM (Central Daylight Time) April 1st, Google has officially changed our name to Topeka.

We didn’t reach this decision lightly; after all, we had a fair amount of brand equity tied up in our old name. But the more we surfed around (the former) Topeka’s municipal website, the more kinship we felt with this fine city at the edge of the Great Plains

In it's infinite wisdom (and ultimate humor), Google has "officially" changed its name to TOPEKA! Yes, Topeka, as in Kansas! In what is being seen as another in Google's LONG history of FANSTASTICAL (sic) and elaborate April Fool's Day jokes, Google is dedicating this name change to the city of Topeka, due to it's unofficial name change last month to Google, Kansas! Topeka is vying for a spot on the list of cities that may receive 100GB Fiber connections to the internet, sponsored by the Google, uh, I mean Topeka, or ... WHATEVER!

Enjoy your April Fool's Day 2010, it appears that Google is! Or Topeka... OR... I'm confused! SMH!
