WHAT STYLEZ THINKS ABOUT => Rev. Jesse Jackson Responds to Shooting Death of DeCarlos Moore (& Oscar Grant)

Rev. Jesse Jackson Reponds to Shooting Death of DeCarlos Moore

“This pattern is becoming all too common,” said Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition following the shooting death of a South Florida man, DeCarlos Moore. Moore was shot by a Miami Police officer during a traffic stop. “The Department of Justice must intervene. This was an unarmed man shot in public. The recent shooting of Moore magnifies symptoms of a deeper problem of insensitivity and detachment.”

Riots broke out in Oakland, CA this past Thursday in protest over the verdict in the Oscar Grant shooting. Grant was the unarmed 22-year-old African-American man who was shot dead by Johannes Mehserle, a white transit officer, on an Oakland train platform on New Year's Day in 2009. A jury in Los Angeles convicted Mehserle of involuntary manslaughter but he was acquitted on the more serious charges of second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Rev. Jackson went on to say, “Diversity is an important asset to police. Police bureaus should be more diversified with women and whites and people of color. It should look like the community so you have more sensitivity. If you have a diverse community, you should have a diverse police department.

Blacks have the highest infant mortality rates, and the shortest life expectancy. Unemployment rates for blacks are nearly twice that of whites. From jobs, to access to capital and lending, racially driven structural inequalities dominate the social and economic landscape of America.

Today it is clearer than ever that we need vigorous action by local and state authorities and the U.S. Department of Justice to enforce civil rights laws, EEOC, contract compliance and affirmative action. I hope the President and his administration will address these issues head-on to deal with issues surrounding equal protection under the law for all Americans.”

SO WHAT DOES STYLEZ THINK?

A friend of mine (shoutout to Je'Tara of http://www.jetaraspeaks.com) just commented today about the fact that the Lebron James DECISION totally overshadowed the trial of Officer Johannes Mehserle, who was facing 2nd-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter charges on the same day! As many of you know, Mehserle was found not guilty of the more serious charges, but was only found guilty of involuntary manslaughter! So, for KILLING another human being (and as some believe, in cold blood), this officer will only have to serve 2-4 years in prison!

In her comment she did not realize that Rev. Jackson had already days earlier responded to this (I believe) injustice that was served to Grant and his family. But I did want to post his response to this tragedy and ANOTHER recent incident involving the Miami Police and black man shot during a traffic stop.

Rev. Jackson also commented on the need for vigorous action by the U.S. Dept of Justice and state authorities to enforce civil rights laws, etc. I think at this point, it is clear that we need that and we also need some re-investigation into the HUNDREDS of pass cases involving such lopsided decisions! It is utterly ridiculous that a badge seems to buy you a free pass to (repeatedly) physically abuse the same people you are paid to "Protect and Serve", as well as a free pass to murder them! And the fact that we have a pattern of abuse should be a huge red light to the authorities, the government and the people.

Of course we need a "voice" of the people. However, the one thing I notice in most of those situations, is the excuse that the victims are former criminals! Unfortunately, that argument has helped some assailants be acquitted or charged with lesser crimes because the jury of their peers, MAY feel that these cops have done society a favor! However, the point they are missing is that in the case of MOST of these victims that were found to be former criminals is that, they are just that FORMER! The crimes committed by these individuals were either done when they were children/teens or they had paid their dues via prison/work programs/probation/etc. So why does DEATH all of the sudden become the penalty for making mistake in your youth! Especially in the case of Grant who had shown so much progress and taking care of his family that its RIDICULOUS to think that Mehserle should have been allowed to Taser that young man, let alone shoot him IN THE BACK! That is NOT justice! That is COWARDICE!

What do you think should be done?

WHAT STYLEZ THINKS ABOUT => Rev. Jesse Jackson Reacts to Dan Gilbert’s Open Letter

News

July 11, 2010

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Reacts to Dan Gilbert’s Open Letter

“Mr. Dan Gilbert's accusations, expressed in an open letter to LeBron James ... have legal and social implications for the league, its union and the character of LeBron James. By saying that he has gotten a free pass and that people have covered for him way too long, Gilbert suggests that LeBron has done something illegal or illicit.

He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave...

If he believes that LeBron quit in games 2, 4, 5 and 6 of the 2010 Eastern Conference semifinals, then, why did he fire the coach? If he believes that LeBron intentionally quit, determining the outcome of those games, why did he pursue him and offer him and additional $120 million to stay in Cleveland?

When players or coaches speak disrespectfully to or about referees, they are fined. If Mr. Gilbert cannot prove that LeBron changed games by quitting, he defames his character. He should have to face a challenge by the NBA and the players association. LeBron has every right to an apology.

LeBron is not a child, nor is he bound to play on Gilbert’s plantation and be demeaned.

Mr. Gilbert's statement is mean, arrogant and presumptuous.

I hope that LeBron will speak up and speak out clearly and forcefully.”

SO WHAT DOES STYLEZ THINK?

I just read this and think that Rev. Jackson makes some great points. I didn't think of it that way, but he is right, Dan does owe Lebron an apology because he pretty much acted out against James in anger and without thinking about the impact of his statements. Gilbert made comments as if he didnt understand that James was bound to leave the Cavs organization by any means necessary. That was PAINFULLY obvious and I think that Gilbert should just face reality and keep it moving!

WILLIE STYLEZ MOVIE REVIEW - "Miss March" -- Fast Pace Comedy but is it HIT or MISS?

After four years in a coma, Eugene Pratt is going to be reunited with his High School Sweetheart... On pages 95-97!

SO WHAT DOES STYLEZ THINK?

I really enjoyed watching Miss March, a fast paced comedy with loads of laughs and low brow antics galore! My favorites would have to be Craig Robinson (playing Horsed*ck.MPEG) and Trevor Moore (playing Tucker Cleigh)! The movie is DEFINITELY fantasy and a lot of the antics are so staged you sometimes see them coming! But its a fun movie by a young team of writers (who also star in the film) and introduces a new generation to the iconic magazine! I definitely recommend you see "Miss March" as soon as possible!

3.5 out of 5 STARS!

WILLIE STYLEZ TECH REVIEW: HP DreamScreen - IS IT "More than just a photo frame" (I think we have Marketing Liars)

Reminds me of Sony DASH but slimmer and already (far as I know) offering more content/software. {{turns out this is NOT the case, see below}} I wouldn't mind having one... if it weren't for the fact that I have a Moto DROID and a desk stand that makes my DROID do all the things this does AND MORE! SMH! I LOVE Technology! But I think the price point "excuse" for using 800x480 would be acceptable IF the unit only cost $100! But we would come out better buying a Dell Mini 10 for $300 & doing A LOT MORE than this thing can do! Yes, it would not be touchscreen... but WHO CARES! PLUS with another $200, you could get the iPad (I shutter to think I'd ever buy one of those) and still get a similar screen size with better resolution & again MORE FUNCTIONALITY AND multitouch (which I'm sure this digital frame will lack)! So this price point is probably going to KILL this device! Good luck HP... NOT!

As I stated a little earlier, turns out this thing is NOT all that HP's Marketing Dept cracked it up to be!!! Read this excerpt from a review I found on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/review/R3I6X6BID4QQFM/ref=cm_cr_rev_detup_redir?_encodi...):

Downright Lies
--------------

The following quotes are from the HP site itself:

"The HP DreamScreen is a gateway to the Internet using your wireless network to access
weather info, Snapfish and your favorite web destinations."

This is just untrue. There is no integrated web browser. It has three web `apps' on it: SnapFish, Pandora, Facebook. That's it. It does not read RSS feeds, or do much of anything you probably want it to do, simple things like display news or recipes.

"Stay current with social network sites like Facebook"

`Like' facebook? There is only Facebook: nothing else.

"Be organized with a built-in alarm clock & calendar."

This is laughable. Wondering how to sync the calendar with outlook or google or anything; maybe even just add appointments, I finally consulted their online documentation. Here, seriously, is the feature list for the calendar `app':

"View the current month, press right or left to view the next or previous month."

BWAH HA HA HA... *sigh*

"Touch-enabled controls--Get fast, easy access to information and entertainment with simple touch controls embedded in the display"

This is referring to some buttons around the bezel of the screen and is just so untrue they would have to change the marketing campaign in Europe or get sued. This does however remind me of the old In Living Color sketch where the handcapped superhero always says he is `not handicapped, but HANDY-CAPABLE!'.

"Videos--Watch home movies and video clips in full screen - Its simple!"

It's as simple as taking your video, recompressing it to a supported video codec, resizing it to a specific resolution, and then physically transferring it ot the device -so simple grandma could do it! (with gordian knot, virtualdub, CCCP, and all those other video tools she has)
