Please help me Save the Romulus Public Library #books #library #reading #children

Yesterday I took my children on our weekly trip to the Romulus (Michigan)Public Library where to my surprise there was a sign posted stating the the library will be closing for good in September. I was upset as were the wonderful librarians, many of which looked tearful and red faced. I asked why the small but busy library was closing and was told that the library 250K budget had been cut from the city’s 2010/2011 budget. Romulus is a small suburb of Detroit with a population of approximately 22,000 people. Our city is 36 square mile, a majority of which is taken up by the Detroit Metro Airport. We have one library, one high school, one senior center, rec center and grocery store. If you want to do any major shopping or entertainment you have to go outside of the city, which doesn’t bother me because I like the small town feeling. However our library is our citizens most valuable resource.
I can't believe this is happening! I haven't spent A LOT of time at my local library, in Romulus Michigan. But my wife and children go there, LITERALLY every week! It's a staple in the community and would be a TRAGEDY to lose! Not only for our community but for our children and their children as well!
We are currently sending correspondence and making calls to the powers that be. As well, I will be attending a City Council Meeting to voice my concerns about this issue. If anyone has suggestions, ideas, etc that can help us save this precious community resource, it would be greatly appreciated!
That is what Stylez thinks! What do you think? Please leave your comments as well as ideas and/or suggestions for how we may be able to save the library!
