WHAT STYLEZ THINKS ABOUT => Facebook Therapy! Do we need help, or are we just attention whores!?!?

Facebook_therapy
So What Does STYLEZ Think?

I was checking out a friend's blog and she was describing the ever present issue of people seeking attention and gratification via Facebook and other social networks. In the end, she summized that people are just fooling themselves or trying to fool others into thinking that they have either a great life, or the worse life ever! Well I TOTALLY AGREE … to a point!

I think many people find the “group therapy” aspect of FB (and other social sites, but especially FB since you get such instant gratification of comments/likes/replies from like everyone you know). I recently started group therapy for parents of troubled teens and I must say, it is like a REAL LIVE Facebook wall! We even start the meetings off with a “status update”. Then the therapist makes comments, others may chime in, and you end up with like a slew of advice, cosigns and other information…. see what I mean, Facebook Live! LOL!

But believe me, when you are apart of something like that, it makes you feel good. It gives you a great feeling of not being alone in the world, or not being alone in your situation, or in your feelings! FB does that for a lot of people. Believe me, even if you just want people to know what you are doing NEXT, it is filling a void for you that you may need attention, or you want someone else to say, hey, I’m doing that too, or I’m going to meet you there! That’s what makes social networking, well, social! One day, I bet any kind of money, there will be therapists prescribing people to join certain groups/fan pages in FB for them to get their group therapy session in, without leaving their home! Matter of fact, maybe I should suggest it to my group therapist!!! LOL!!!

But really, are people's constant updates a way of fooling themselves, or a plea for attention, or a cry for help, or maybe all the above!?! Whatever it may be, it is what FB is there for. We talk (or update), people will listen! We pour out our problems, people will intervene or give advice! We share our ups, people will LIKE it and give us praise! We share our downs, and people will be there to pick up the pieces! Should it be out on the internet, for the world to see? Some of it maybe not, but believe me, Facebook is the cheapest, and easiest, therapy in the world! And it just might help some people make it!

That is what Stylez thinks! What do you think? Let me know and let the world know! ;-)

WHAT STYLEZ THINKS => About Android versus iPhone

So What Does Stylez Think?

I was on Facebook today and found this posting from LifeHacker website

Have you switched from Android to iPhone? Let us know how it went (what worked, what didn't, etc.).

Now, after re-reading that question about 12 times, I realized that they REALLY SAID "Have you switched from Android TO iPhone"!!! I'm still convinced it was a typo, because that has got to be the most BACKWARD question ever asked by a technology web magazine! Of course, the comments went NUTS! Of course I had to join in because its what us techies do!

WHAT STYLEZ THINKS ABOUT => The Status of Marriage!

Adam and Eve were never ordained married. That came about from the tradition of man. Just love who you are with and thank GOD for them...be faithful - what do you think?
via Facebook.com

So What Does Stylez Think?

So I was bouncing around the "INTERNETS" making people GO NUTS! And of course, I came across a quote that got me thinking. As you can see above, someone decided to stir the pot on the Status of Marriage! I am married, legally not just on FB! LOL!, so I recognize the importance and the benefits of marriage. But this little tidbit was interesting and I just had to answer:

That is VERY INTERESTING... it depends on which definition you use to describe marriage! Merriam-Webster has 3 definitions, and the first two describe a lawful act and a traditional ceremony (which, like your friend said, is a tradition of man). When Jehovah created Eve, that UNION was so strong, so eternal, that you have to look to the third definition: " an intimate or close union" ... or Princeton's inverted definition: "a close or intimate union". There could be no argument that if you were MADE from me, our UNION could be no closer or intimate than that! So, TECHNICALLY Adam & Eve were joined in marriage under GOD's LAW of Marriage as it was recognized by HIM! In modern times, a priest/minister/rabbi/judge is required to oversee you're union and confirm it in order for it to be lawfully recognized... unless you live in a Common Law state/country where just the act of being in union for a long period of time is sufficient! So be it religious, lawful or social, marriage is a SERIOUS and complicated status, so you definitely want to enter into it prepared and ready for the long haul!

He Doesn't Want YOU, So WHY Do You Care!?!? - Why smart women need to stop listening to dumb men!

Why everytime a Black male celeb says something about he prefers non-black women, Black women act like that negro is our spokesperson? Black men still love Black women, ladies, stop using celebs as your "life" examples.

So I was "posted up" on Facebook yesterday and saw the above status update! OMG! It was one of the best statements I had read in weeks! PLUS it came from a VERY successful BLACK MAN in the movie & music industry! So I was DOUBLE impressed by the statement!

I TOTALLY agree with the point being made here. I can understand the disgust that black women may feel when they hear their favorite artist, actor or whatever, spout off about not wanting to be in a relationship with a woman of his same race. But what I don't understand is why does the feeling carry over to anger, hatred and jealousy of other women! Or why does it turn into a generalized feeling toward other men who may not feel the same way!?!?

As a member of "post-racial" America (*sarcasm*) I feel that we all need to start over looking skin-tone requirements; start getting away from racial, financial, cultural and religious discrimination; and really start loving people for who they are inside! However, not everyone feels like me (hence the sarcasm, and thought that even with a Black president, America is probably even more racially unjust than 20 years ago!)! So, realistically, all I can ask is:
- if you are not a celeb & you are from the hood, why do you care who these rich men want to date? If they DID date black women, how does that change life FOR YOU?
- why do you listen to ignorant men from radio & TV, then proceed to pass judgement on ever Tom, Dick & Leroy that you see on the street based on that?
- (this one's for the guys) Just because you see these athletes, musicians & actors talking crazy about why they aren't dating black women, DOES NOT mean you need to REPEAT these lame excuses like a damn fool!

So people, please, wake up, get a life of your own instead of living vicariously through these celebs! Believe me, they DON'T care about you or your life! And they can care less if you screw it up!

If you VALUE privacy or NEED to expose your Facebook account then PLEASE read this NOW!

An Open Letter from Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg
It has been a great year for making the world more open and connected. Thanks to your help, more than 350 million people around the world are using Facebook to share their lives online.

To make this possible, we have focused on giving you the tools you need to share and control your information. Starting with the very first version of Facebook five years ago, we've built tools that help you control what you share with which individuals and groups of people. Our work to improve privacy continues today.

Facebook's current privacy model revolves around "networks" — communities for your school, your company or your region. This worked well when Facebook was mostly used by students, since it made sense that a student might want to share content with their fellow students.

Over time people also asked us to add networks for companies and regions as well. Today we even have networks for some entire countries, like India and China.

However, as Facebook has grown, some of these regional networks now have millions of members and we've concluded that this is no longer the best way for you to control your privacy. Almost 50 percent of all Facebook users are members of regional networks, so this is an important issue for us. If we can build a better system, then more than 100 million people will have even more control of their information.

The plan we've come up with is to remove regional networks completely and create a simpler model for privacy control where you can set content to be available to only your friends, friends of your friends, or everyone.

We're adding something that many of you have asked for — the ability to control who sees each individual piece of content you create or upload. In addition, we'll also be fulfilling a request made by many of you to make the privacy settings page simpler by combining some settings. If you want to read more about this, we began discussing this plan back in July.

Since this update will remove regional networks and create some new settings, in the next couple of weeks we'll ask you to review and update your privacy settings. You'll see a message that will explain the changes and take you to a page where you can update your settings. When you're finished, we'll show you a confirmation page so you can make sure you chose the right settings for you. As always, once you're done you'll still be able to change your settings whenever you want.

We've worked hard to build controls that we think will be better for you, but we also understand that everyone's needs are different. We'll suggest settings for you based on your current level of privacy, but the best way for you to find the right settings is to read through all your options and customize them for yourself. I encourage you to do this and consider who you're sharing with online.

Thanks for being a part of making Facebook what it is today, and for helping to make the world more open and connected.

Mark Zuckerberg

So what does STYLEZ think?

I have to say, it really makes sense that they need to make this change. Should the new changes be made to simplify the settings down to this level, maybe not! But they are right, the average person wants simple, easy to use and understand, or they just wont use it! I hope they maintain a SIMPLE & ADVANCED modes when it comes to this new security, so that we can TRULY build our own customized security settings. I mean, Unix, Windows, Linux, Mac, all of the modern Networked Operating Systems have allowed us the ability to create custom groups with security settings that fit the way each individual or company wants them. We almost have that with Facebook (through the use of groups, but I guess for the average Joe, its not the simplest tool to understand).

But for the most part, I think this is another good step towards maintaining and advancing the need for privacy controls on Facebook. Next, they need to look at why its so easy to hack accounts & business pages! Hopefully that will be examined and corrected soon! Check out these other articles on Facebook Privacy:
